On Businesses
Bringing artistic value into business structures: Simplify, Oliaros, Jar, Vespignano.
Making expertise visible
2.5.1Expertise accumulates over years, accumulating knowledge, methods, and operational depth that remain largely invisible to the people they want to reach. A visitor encounters a website. A client receives a proposal. A guest experiences a place. What is rarely visible is the structure that makes all of it possible – the expertise, the decisions, the systems, the people behind them.
Working with Simplify[…], Oliaros[…], Jar[…], and Vespignano[…] meant translating different forms of accumulated knowledge into communication systems capable of making that depth visible, legible, and accessible.
When a business outgrows its own description
2.5.2Businesses rarely become more complex overnight. New services emerge, audiences diversify, responsibilities expand. What was once easy to explain gradually becomes harder to describe.
Simplify[…] offered a particularly clear example of this condition. What began as a focused consultancy progressively evolved into a broader ecosystem spanning corporate training, strategic advisory, public funding, events, and organisational development. Over almost a decade of collaboration, the work extended across strategy, identity, websites, events, and communication materials.
As the organisation expanded, the objective became less about describing individual services and more about showing how they related to one another.
The first experience happens before arrival
2.5.3For organizations whose work is experienced through places, buildings, or environments, communication frequently becomes the first point of contact. Long before someone visits a property, enters a room, or walks through a landscape, expectations have already begun to form.
Over the years, Oliaros[…] has collaborated with more than twenty-five architecture studios, including BIG, Sou Fujimoto, Atelier Bow-Wow and Aires Mateus. Through projects spanning development, architecture, and hospitality, the company has cultivated a close dialogue between built environments and the Cycladic landscape. The communication system was conceived with the same restraint, leaving space for architecture and imagery to speak for themselves.
For Jar[…], a boutique countryside retreat on Lake Garda, the website was developed around the same qualities that define the experience of staying there: attention to detail, a sense of calm, and an absence of unnecessary friction.
When the product carries a cultural dimension
2.5.4Some businesses produce outcomes that exceed what is being sold. For Vespignano[…], a young artisan winery in the hills of Brisighella focused on recovering forgotten vineyards and producing natural wines, communication became part of a broader effort to frame winemaking as cultural production. Every label was developed in collaboration with a contemporary artist transforming each release into a small edition where artistic practice and viticulture operate together.
Systems built to change
2.5.5The communication systems developed for these businesses were never conceived as fixed identities. They were designed to evolve alongside organizations whose activities continue to expand and transform. Across Simplify[…], Oliaros[…], Jar[…], and Vespignano[…], the work focused on building structures capable of supporting growth, adaptation, and increasing complexity over time.
